Granemore lost out to a well organised Clan na Gael side in the final of the ‘B’ Senior Football Championship last Saturday.
Granemore could have little complaints as they were beaten by a team that had an embarrassment of riches – including current county player Stefan Campbell.
And it was Campbell who made the telling contribution.
Shane Rafferty was very productive in the full forward line, winning a number of early frees which in turn were converted to keep Granemore in touch.
Brendan Boylan had a huge say in midfield as the mid-Armagh men dominated possession for large portions of the game. Nontheless it was Clans that got the scores that counted, rattling the net midway through the first half. They cut the Granemore defence open shortly after to add a second before the break. At the interval they led 2-6 to 6.
The second half saw the Lurgan men turn the screw and with it, limit Granemore to a solitary point from Pauric Conroy. A few glaring misses did little to help their cause too.
However, by this stage Campbell and his teammates were running riot banging in a third goal coupled with numerous unanswered points.
All that said, Granemore battled hard and continued to make Clans work for their scores but in the end they were not good enough.
