It is with great pleasure that we can report a victory for the North Armagh and south Armagh u-14 teams in the prestigious intercounty U-14 blitz tournament held in Burren earlier today Saturday 4th August. North Armagh A-team won the overall A competition while south Armagh won the B competition. Both North and south were represented by an A and a B team. This the first time Armagh have won this competition and overall the county had upwards on 80 young boys from nearly all the clubs in the county playing at Burren today. Others to take part were East Down South Down, Antrim, and Louth. Antrim had two all county teams while Louth fielded one all county team.
The North Armagh boys were undefeated ,indeed the only team to draw with them was their neighbours The south. The standard was tremendous and in a superb final The North lads won by a single point against a very strong Louth team. The South B Team defeated Antrim B in the B final.. A credit to all concered and a proud day for Armagh football.. Lets hope they continue on their career and join the all-county squads next year whereby on reaching minor level we will have another winning all-Ireland team.. It's worth noting that nearly all of this and last years minor team all went through the u-14 development squads . Congrats to all the lads and their mentors . Well done .

I'm very sorry to have to report the passing of our Vice President, and indeed all time great, Jack Bratton. Jack passed on to his eternal reward late last night / in the early hours of this morning, following a recent illness.

Jack Bratton was revered by all in our Club, and a great personal memory for myself was of Jack carrying Sam Maguire into our Club in 2002, to the cheers of hundreds of Harps supporters.

Deepest sympathies are extended to the Bratton family.

May Jack Rest In Peace.

I would like to hear opinions on this particular subject. It would appear that there are 3 key issues to be looked at :-

(1) Safety - I think everybody accepts that safety is a prime consideration.
(2) Respect for the players - As Christy Cooney has rightly stated "the difficulty comes when players are pushed and shoved and intimidated (not sure about that one !!). They want to enjoy an All-Ireland Final and to be treated with a little respect"
(3) Consideration for the fans - None of the 4 competing semi-finalists have won it for a long time back - Kildare last won the AI in 1928 !! Is it reasonable to expect their fans to sit rooted to their seats?

I believe that the answer possibly lies somewhere in the middle. What about this - Make sure there are enough stewards/police to ensure that no-one gets on to the pitch when the whistle sounds, very, very quickly erect the podium to allow all players/officials to get onto it , then let the stewards open the gates and ensure that everyone enters the pitch in an orderly fashion. That way the players get their glory , the fans get what they want and health/safety issues are kept to a minimum. I feel that this might work if enough pre-match notification was given repeatedly to all concerned. Of course there will always be hotheads but I believe the vast majority of fans , knowing they were going to be allowed on to the pitch , would obey. Key to all this would be the speed at which the podium was erected so that the fans do not have too wait too long screaming and going nuts.
Pitch invasions now take place as a matter of course and tradition - if a new tradition were put in place fans in 2/3 years would (imo) readily accept it.
