Default Englands Worst World Cup Team

Did anybody see the programme " Englands Worst world cup team" on BBC last night. Where they picked what they considederd to be the Fantasy worst 11 palyers ( worst for various reasons) to send to the World Cup. 3 players were nominated for each position, wth various pundits and "celebs" giving their opinons on the players, until 1 player was choosen for the position.

It consisted of Steve McClaren as manager
The final team that was selected was as follows:
Bonetti (goals), the back line consisted of Warren Barton, Phil Neville, Keith Curle, and John Terry ( for off the field antics rather than his palying ). Others to make the team were Steve Hodge, Kieron Dyer, Joey Barton, Carlton Palmer, John Fashenau and Michael Ricketts (Who??????)

I wonder are they any other Worst Teams that we could put together Maybe worst GAA championship team, made up of players from any county?????

Seen the show myself. I thought Seth Johnson was a cert for a midfield position. I thought Phil Neville was a bit of a harsh one too as well as John Terry (I would have put Ugo Ehiogu in somewhere). Then again it was a funny enough show and not to be taken too seriously.

Kevin Keegan should have been IMO.

True enough Corrinshego, I really thought Keegan would have been picked as manager, when you consider some of the interviews he did, he didn't half lose the run of himself at times. In One interview he actually admitted he wasn't upto the job of managing the national team (the problem was he was already manager at the time!).

Terry was a bad choice too, for all his "off the field antics", the boy can play ball. I was kinda hoping Garry Neville might get put in there only for the reason the he is a miserable, moaning gimp. Then again it was meant to be a tongue in cheek effort.

Would agree with us both that Keegan was the "worst england coach" even by his own standards, which he said himself that he wasnt up for the job!!

Terry shouldnt have even been considered as being on englands worst team as centre half, as he is considered to be one of the best defenders in the world at this moment of time, but this World Cup coming would tell us if he is "World Class" or not, and because hes messed about off the pitch with a few mates girls dosent make him a bad footballer, its on the pitch where it counts and not off it!!

I would have liked to see Gary Neville on that team since he is abit of a "moaning michael"! It'l be the equilvalent to the "Chuckle brothers" on the football field!! Where his brother Phil is in the Full Back position on that team!!

Was delighted to see him named in it to be fair. Is he really top class or is it that there just arn't any other top English central defenders around? His off the pitch antics had a big impact on his play. Against Everton shortly after the Bridge fiasco he was nothing short of hilarious. Twice he completely misjudged a high ball (Saha or Yakuba scored from one of them). I don't see him as anything special at all him or Ferdinand. I'd start Upson but there isn't a chance of the media hyped Terry or Ferdinand being dropped. One thing I will say about Terry is that he leaves nothing in the dressing room. He gives 100% all the time. I think Ashley Cole and Wayne Rooney are England's 2 best players. I'd like to include Gerrard but he doesn't do it for England, on form he shouldn't even be on the squad, Huddlestone had a better season FFS!

Corrinshego, that's a low blow on Ehiogu, he was a hero of mine. I've a Villa shirt from 96/97 with "Ehiogu 16" on the back. He was a quality central defender. Ugo, Southgate and McGrath all there at the same time was unbelievable. Ugo was taught by the best and was a fine defender in his time.

I never once said Ehiogu was a bad player Begbie. Southgate could have been an option for the team too simply for his penalty miss at Euro 96. Scott Carson's another after his disaster against Croatia in the final game of Euro 2008 qualifying.

Why stick him in then? because he was on the verge of the squad, only played 3/4 games for them? Is that the main reason? Yes Southgate could have been in for his penalty miss but can't see why Ehiogu would be in.

To be honest that probably is the reason Begbie. I wasn't basing what I said on what I personally thought of Ehiogu as a footballer (far from it), but rather the sort of players BBC 3 were putting in the team and the nature of the programme (i.e. ones who'd only won a few caps such as Joey Barton and Michael Ricketts.)
And yes I before you say it I also realise Ehiogu was better than both Barton and Ricketts! ... I'm sure some of the Celtic fans on this site wouldn't have the fondest of memories of Ehiogu, remember his overhead kick for Rangers in the Old Firm game a few years ago?

Back to the team which was picked, Warren Barton wasn't a bad player, indeed I thought Danny Mills was a shoe in for right back, anyone remember his mistake against Sweden in the 2002 WC? And Phil Neville is far from one of England's worst ever full backs.
Kieron Dyer's selection was interesting, I didn't realise he had over 30 England caps!
