    Default Player of the Year nominees announced

    Player of the Year nominees announced
    The GAA and the GPA have named the nominees for the 2011 GAA GPA All-Star Players of the Year and Young Players of the Year Awards sponsored by Opel.

    The nominees were selected by the All-Star selection committee steering group and the overall winners will be chosen by inter-county players and announced at the banquet event at Convention Centre Dublin on Friday October 21.

    GAA GPA All-Star Footballer of the Year nominees - Alan Brogan (Dublin), Darran O'Sullivan (Kerry), Stephen Cluxton (Dublin)

    GAA GPA All-Star Young Footballer of the Year nominees - Cillian O'Connor (Mayo), James McCarthy (Dublin), Mark McHugh (Donegal)

    GAA GPA All-Star Hurler of the Year nominees - Michael Fennelly (Kilkenny), Pádraic Maher (Tipperary), Tommy Walsh (Kilkenny)

    GAA GPA All-Star Young Hurler of the Year nominees - Liam Rushe (Dublin), Declan Hannon (Limerick), Pauric Mahony (Waterford)

    GAA GPA Christy Ring Cup Hurler of the Year nominees - Shane Nolan (Kerry), Eamon Kearns (Wicklow)

    GAA GPA All-Star Nicky Rackard Cup Hurler of the Year nominees - Martin Finn (London), David Dunne (Louth)

    GAA GPA All-Star Lory Meagher Cup Hurler of the Year nominees - Niall Campbell (Donegal), Damian Maguire (Tyrone)

    A limited number of tickets are now on sale to the general public for the upcoming GAA GPA All-Stars Awards 2011 sponsored by Opel.

    The event which takes place at the Convention Centre Dublin on the evening of Friday October 21 will be screened live on RTÉ 1 television.

    The All-Star football and hurling teams will be presented with their awards on the evening and the Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year Awards in both football and hurling in addition to the Christy Ring, Nicky Rackard and Lory Meagher Players of the Year will also be announced on the night.

    Tickets for the banquet cost €125 per person plus VAT and can be purchased by following the

    Those attending the event will be required to be in attendance by 5:30pm sharp on the evening of the event.

    I think the all star selection was a joke and alan brogan for PoTY is a complete joke. And McHugh in for young player is a joke as well.

    if Darran O'Sullivan doesnt get it then we all should go home, how can a goalkeeper be in the running for player of the year like

    McHugh had a great year I thought.

    Yes I would have O'Sullivan as POTY. He's been the most consistent all year. But as we know from years past, those who chose these awards only watch the big games.

    If Alan Brogan gets it it'll be the shortest clips of the year, good player - yes. Great player - no.

    To be fair i thought Alan Brogan had a very good season, but so did O'Sullivan so it will be a tough call.

    Alan Brogan has been named as the 2011 Footballer of the Year.

    O'Sullivan should have got it. Brogan didn't deserve it, but at least he did more than Cluxton.
