Default disgraceful treatment of young referee

at a recent u14 game tullysaran supporters treated a young ref from killeavy apaulingly over a decision from either a sending off or a penatly descision, after the game a young tullysaran players parents confronted the ref with the mother grabing the lad by the throat and shouting abuse, wen the lad got back 2 his car it had been keyed all along the back with deep scrapes! a young lad (who was on the all ireland winning minor team) was giving up his time 2 ref a game and this was the way he was treated!! the culprits should be ashamed of themselves!

This is not the 1st time tullysarren have been involved in a major referee incident at underage at an u12 game last year a parent tried to run the referee down after the game . I hope the referee sends in a tough letter and tullysarren be punished they should have to name the parent and pay for the damage to the car. They need to take leadership now and sort this crap

Disgraceful that this happened, however I think it's a bit much to enforce tullysaran pay for damage to the car. Realistically this could have been done by anybody anywhere. The attack on the ref needs to be dealt with strongly, especially as it happened at an underage game. Disgraceful!!!

why would it be a bit much for tullysaran pay the damage? it was one of thier members done the cowardly act, or tullysaran shud insist the member at hand pays if they are able 2 find out exactly who dunnit! realisticly the lad shudnt have 2 fork out because sum1 is a bad loser an resorted to such a trampish act!

I am coaching the St Brigids side who were playing Tullysaran and I have to say I was shocked at the attitude of the Tullysaran "supporters" during the game in general and what happened to the ref was sickening if im honest. How are we supposed to attract young people to become refs if this is how they are treated by some people?

Very much doubt the culprit broadcast his/her actions to their fellow clubmen. If Tullysaran have any decency about them they'll offer to pay for the repairs.

i suppose there is another action that could be taken: the CCC send no referees to that ground for the next year as punishment and make Tullysaran play all their games away. Everyone is entitled to go to a match and go home safely regardless if you are an official, supporter, coach or player. For a "supporter" to do this and no apparent intervention from the home club is, sadly, a symptom of clubs attitudes. Clubs are afraid to stand up to their own for fear of losing players or upsetting the neighbour. Well tough sh*t - stand up and do it. I'd hope that the referee has reported this incident and the the appropriate action is levied.
no matter which great player we think of they all started their careers at a club - the club is the cornerstone of the GAA foundation - lets keep it that way

Agree entirely mrgaa1 this is not good enough and the club are weak if they don't take some proactive action on it Tullysaran must show some leadership and courage.

If not no home matches at underage all next season, if they don't understand that this will affect their own underage members then they deserve all they get.

But the Minor Co Bd have to stand firm on this one and prove that they at least have courage if the club in question don't.
