EIRE OG TO HOST COMMUNITY FESTIVAL
Eire Og GFC based at Pinebank in Craigavon is set to host its first weekend community festival at the end of September of this year. The three day event will see an array of talent performing in a large marquee specially booked for the festival. The club which has been in existence for over 40 years decided to organize this festival for the local community and surrounding districts. A spokesperson for the club stated "We at Eire Og pride ourselves at being in the heart of the community. The organising committee haved worked really hard to insure that the weekend of activities will suit all ages. On Friday 23rd September at 8.30pm we our proud to announce that the world famous Irish group 'The Fureys' will be performing for the first time in Craigavon. The Fureys had massive hits with songs such as 'The Green Fields of France', 'When You Were Sweet Sixteen', 'The Red Rose Cafe' and 'Steal Away'. On the Saturday 24th September also at 8.30pm we will be hosting a White Collar Boxing event which will include well known faces within the community boxing opponents from various local Gaelic Clubs. On the Sunday evening we will be hosting an Eire Og Strictly come dancing competition and this will feature footballers and officials from the club. We would like to thank Moyraverty Arts & Drama Society for providing most of the female dancers.for this show. So far for the boxing we have got former county player and All Ireland winner Gerard Reid along, with former deputy mayor of Craigavon Kieran Corr and current players such as Stephen Burns, Gary Brennan will all take to the ring. In the dancing we have got Paddy Mallon who use to teach in St Anthony's Primary School, club referee Barney Henry will be also showing his best moves on the dance floor along with club stalwart Tony Devlin. The whole weekend should prove to be a great event for the community and to make sure the children don't feel left out there will be a junior Disco on the Saturday afternoon and an Irish Dance Competition on the Sunday afternoon."
Tickets go on sale this week for all three main events. The Furey's concert tickets will be £15, the Fight Night tickets will cost £20 and the Strictly Eire Og dancing will cost £10.
