Well if yesterday was bad, today was fucking diabolical. Thoroughly depressed after watching that stuff. It’s not the result that frustrates, I expected us to be up against it. It’s just so disheartening to see the next generation of Armagh footballers playing the same failed football as the seniors. All natural flair replaced with slow, mechanical, predictable garbage. Players looked over trained and slow, there was no zip, no one out in front. Tyrone won the vast majority of the 50/50 balls and everything that broke around the middle, Armagh only came into it a bit when Tyrone started to pull up with a 9 or 10 point lead. Armagh football is going to rot away in the doldrums unless some fresh ideology is introduced at all levels. This relentless hand passing is getting us no where.
There’s no point talking about player performance, none did themselves justice. Peter Carragher was huge miss. Not only is he our best player, but also the captain and leader of the team. If he’s back we might have a sniff against Cork, although I wouldn’t be very hopeful either way. It has to be said that Tyrone are very impressive and will take some beating this year, they could’ve won by 20 points today if they’d wanted.
Don't lose heart AFS. Somtimes when things are going bad in football players take the safe option of a handpass to try and avoid mistakes when it may not be the right one. Look at Longford. They lost by 19 in the first round of Leinster but still won it. Trying be the optimist!
Turned down a ticket for the match as I feared the worst.
Unfortunately have feared this for a while I have been warning about poor performances and getting lucky with wins, luck can't carry us passed a quality side and this is the first real one we have had to play this year in the c'ship (bar a Derry team who missed so many chances it was unreal and then played 5 mins football and scared the living daylights out of us) and with a Munster team up next - Cork I think - we really need to improve big time.
Every Single Ball!!
Losing their key midfielder before the start was a tough blow for the lads. Hopefully he will recover for the next match.
They are still a very good team, but they will have to learn how to deal with the blanket defense. Cavan used it against them and they struggled. Tyrone perfected it against them and they were hammered. Anytime Armagh had the ball there was 13 Tyrone lads behind the ball - even when the match was as good as over. They ended up passing the ball back and forward along the 45 until they lost possession, leaving Tyrone able to break forward and deliver quality ball into their excellent forwards. Having watched most of their matches this year I know our forwards are as good. But the Tyrone forwards usually only had one defender to beat and were rarey outnumbered going forward. Our guys basically got outnumbered in the Tyrone half.
Still think this team has a lot to offer, especially if they get Carragher back fit.
What was wrong with Carragher anyway? He has two weeks to recover.
Hope it goes better the next day out and maybe those on the line need to work on their responses to other teams tactics.
As the lads seem to have collectively tried really hard, if this is the 2nd time this year that we have been unhinged by 'blanket defence' tactics, then the answer to our problems lies in how we prepare for that eventuality the next day.
Every Single Ball!!
Does anyone know the date of the Minors next match & where it might possibly be played?
It's on the weekend of the 31/1.
They probably won't fix it until they know the make up of the senior quarter finals, which are also on that weekend.
