Cuchulainns win Senior Hurling Title

A Titanic effort from Cuchulainns on Thursday evening enabled them to win their first Senior Championship last night in the Athletic Grounds against old rivals Keady. After a first game that was drawn no quarter was asked or given by both sides in what was an intensive highly exciting game of hurling.
Keady playing down the hill and with the slight advantage of a swirling breeze opened the scoring with a well taken point but Cuchulainns went up the field and Declan Coulter fired In a well taken goal. Keady then took control and after 20 minutes led by 1-7 to 1-1, however it was Cuchulainns who finished the half with Declan Coulter firing in another superb goal backed up by 6 frees from brother Chris to lead by a score of 2-7 to 1-8 at half time.
Keady got the first score of the second half but Cuchulainns kept plugging away and a great point from Paul McKernan maintained the lead and with 5 minutes left Cuchulainns had a lead of 4 points 2-12 to 1-11 but 2 points from Keady insured a tense finish and indeed it took a great save in the final seconds of injury time by Paddy Heaney to ensure that Cuchulainns could be crowned Champions and worthy ones at that. Ciaran Clifford as Captain received the Cup and the celebrations began and may continue for a few days.
